Congrats on Your Pregnancy!

These few months are an exciting and anxious time, full of questions and concerns. How can I stay as healthy as possible? How can I have a gentle birth for my little one? How can I involve my partner in this process? Rest assured that you are in good company. Every woman wants to enter motherhood with the best possible start.

My interactive classes are designed to help you identify your strengths, face your fears, and create a joyful personal birth for your family. Discussion includes exercise and nutrition for the gestating body, how to stay as low-risk as possible, sex in pregnancy, when to contact your birth team, the physiology of birth, comfort measures like massage, positioning, and breathing techniques, relationship building with your partner, what to do if you birth in an unexpected place, how to handle unforeseen complications, breastfeeding, bonding with your newborn, and transitioning to life as a parent. We also take time to cover common interventions, options available in a hospital setting, and tips for navigating protocols and policies.

Come to class prepared to practice relaxation techniques, share your own research, rehearse what you'll do in labor, grill guest speakers about their experience, and do fun topic-related activities designed to help you envision the birth you want.

Every labor is unique, but it is my belief that most women with proper education, preparation and loving support can give birth naturally.

The Bradley Method...

  • is a system of natural labor techniques in which a woman and her coach play an active part. It is a simple method of increasing self-awareness, teaching a woman how to deal with the stress of labor by tuning in to her own body.
  • encourages mothers to trust their bodies using natural breathing, relaxation, nutrition, exercise, and education, instead of training them to try to control the sensations of labor.
  • teaches couples to stay low risk. While occasionally there are risk factors beyond your control, staying healthy and low risk can help to avoid complications. Low risk mothers have more choices.
  • keeps classes small enough to provide individual attention and foster an environment where questions and discussion are encouraged.
  • works! Of over 200,000 Bradley®-educated couples nationwide, over 86% of them have had spontaneous, unmedicated vaginal births.
  • teaches relaxation as the key to laboring effectively. It is the safest and most effective way to reduce unnecessary pain and to cope with any pain that you do experience.
  • provides excellent coach/doula preparation for your chosen partner. The classes are designed to educate and motivate coaches and make them a valuable part of the birth experience.
  •  ensures you are getting quality childbirth education. All Bradley® instructors are highly trained to help you learn how to give birth.
Each baby has only one opportunity to be born; there are no second chances. So whenever possible the experience ought to be safe, wonderful, natural, empowering, and amazing. - Nancy Wainer-Cohen
